GLASS

Glass usually comes in brown, green or clear format. These must be separated as each different type of glass contains slightly different ingredients.

The glass is taken to the processing plant where metal caps and plastic sleeves are removed. It is then finely crushed into pieces known as cullets. This is then taken to the glass factory where the cullet is mixed with sand, limestone and soda ash and melted in a large furnace. This can then be moulded into new glass items.

Make sure you empty and rinse any containers out thoroughly and remove caps or lids and corks. It is essential also that the three colours of glass are correctly separated. You can then pop them into your local community bottle banks like the ones shown below!
